State hydropower producer Uzbekgidroenergo has commissioned three new hydroelectric power plants on the Oksuv River in the southern Kashkadarya region of Uzbekistan, bringing an aggregate 24 megawatts of renewable generating capacity online.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inaugurated the cascade during a working trip to the region. The project forms part of Uzbekistan’s broader drive to expand renewable power generation and replace fossil fuels in regional energy hubs by utilizing the flow and elevation gradients of mountain waterways.
The newly built cascade comprises the 6.2 MW Rabat plant, the 7.5 MW Chappasuy plant, and the 10.3 MW Tamshush plant. The cascade infrastructure is engineered to run consecutively along the river flow to maintain continuous output.
The complex is projected to generate an average of 105.1 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, enough to cover the consumption needs of approximately 44,000 households. The displacement of thermal generation will save the national power system roughly 31.5 million cubic meters of natural gas and approximately 50,000 metric tons of coal annually.
