The Russian federal government has taken direct control of the Krasnogorsk hydro-engineering project on the Irtysh River in the Omsk region. This step follows a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and regional Governor Vitaly Khotsenko, which prompted an immediate site inspection by a federal delegation.
A commission led by Muslim Khuchiev, an aide to the Russian prime minister, and Nataliya Sologub, deputy head of the Federal Water Resources Agency, visited the site to assess construction progress. Following the inspection, the government decided to draft a detailed roadmap to regulate the final phases of the project.
During his meeting with Putin, Governor Khotsenko acknowledged that the project has faced significant difficulties. He attributed the delays to a lack of recent domestic experience in constructing large-scale hydraulic facilities, as well as unstable water levels on the Irtysh River. The two leaders held private discussions to address the specific challenges of the project.
According to the Federal Water Resources Agency, the primary objective of the federal intervention is to coordinate the actions of contractors and regional authorities. The agency stated that Moscow will also determine the level of additional financial and administrative support needed to complete the long-delayed project without further schedule slippage.
