Kyrgyzstan tenders geological surveys for Kambar-Ata-1 hydropower project

Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Energy has launched a tender for engineering and geological surveys for the Kambar-Ata-1 hydropower project. The procurement notice, published on the state portal on Feb. 5, 2026, specifies that the surveys are part of a technical assistance program for the facility’s development.

The ministry is employing a two-packet procurement method – a system where technical and financial proposals are reviewed separately – to select a qualified contractor. A pre-bid meeting and site inspection are scheduled for Feb. 12, with the deadline for submissions set for 14:00 on Feb. 23.

The Kambar-Ata-1 plant is planned as Kyrgyzstan’s largest electricity generation facility. The project is intended to mitigate domestic winter power shortages and regulate water flows for the Syr Darya basin, affecting agricultural sectors in downstream Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The tender marks a continuation of the preparatory phase for the dam, which has seen increased regional cooperation among Central Asian states in recent years.
