The Green Energy Fund of Kyrgyzstan has launched a tender for the lease of six land plots to build small hydropower plants. These sites, which are located in the Osh and Issyk-Kul regions, cover more than 86 hectares. The projects represent a combined capacity of over 27 megawatts as the government attempts to increase domestic generation to meet rising demand.
The largest facility is the Alay hydropower plant in the Osh region. The government has allocated 25.5 hectares of forest service land for this nine-megawatt project. Three other plants are planned for the Uzgen district, including the six-megawatt Toru-Tay facility and the 1.85-megawatt Zerger plant. A smaller unit (the 500-kilowatt Cher-Alma plant) is also included in the tender for the southern region.
In the Issyk-Kul region, two sites have been identified in the Jeti-Oguz district. The Svetlaya Polyana plant is designed for a four-megawatt capacity on a 24-hectare plot near the village of the same name. The six-megawatt Ak-Shyirak facility will occupy approximately 30 hectares of land near the village of Lipenka.
The tender offers long-term lease rights for state forest and municipal land. This initiative is part of a broader government strategy to utilize Kyrgyzstan’s water resources to diversify the energy mix and reduce reliance on imported electricity.
